Verona Marathon for the city: solidarity, foreigners, carnival masks, concerts and big sponsors

VERONA – The Arena of Verona, Juliet’s House, the Basilica of San Zeno, “Piazza Erbe”, “Ponte Pietra”, “Castelvecchio”. Great organization, international level competition, 10 thousand runners. These are some of the reasons to come and run Verona Marathon on Sunday November 17th 2019.

 

Dal 30 novembre 2000 la Città di Verona fa parte del Patrimonio mondiale UNESCO, mentre il 30 agosto 2017 la Commissione Nazionale italiana per l’UNESCO decise di concedere il proprio patrocinio alla Maratona di Verona, considerando che essa si corre nel centro storico della città, iscritta nella lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Unesco.

From November 30th 2000 the City of Verona is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, while on August 30th 2017 the Italian National Commission for UNESCO decided to grant its patronage to Verona Marathon, considering that it runs in the historic center of the city, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Verona Marathon 2019 edition was presented this morning at the Chamber of Commerce of Verona in the presence of the highest institutional offices and sponsors of the event.

The race distances are confirmed: two competitions Fidal: Verona Marathon (42.195km) and Zero Wind Cangrande Half Marathon (21.097km).

In competitive and non-competitive version the renewed Bridgestone Last 10K with the patronage of the Hospital of Verona. It confirms the strong solidarity side with the main theme ‘Il Bambino’ thanks to five No Profit Organizations present in the project: A.B.E.O. Onlus Verona, Amici Di Angal Onlus, Italian Red Cross, Prematurely and Save The Children.

The offer and the organizational commitment of Verona Marathon Events does not end here, on Saturday morning, November 16th, the City Sightseeing Run that will take place from Verona Marathon Hub and CorriBra, the competition reserved for students of Verona.

Silvia Nicolis, Verona Chamber of Commerce Managing Director, and Filippo Rando, City Council of Verona, were present at the press conference, with them all the sponsors who believe in Verona Marathon project. Zero Wind represented by Elena Pellegrini (Press Office), Bridgestone through the press office manager Jacques Capizzi, Gsk with Maria Teresa Uberti, project manager and coordinator for the new GSK headquarters in Verona, with Massimo Ascaini Communications Director, Turkish Airlines Ahmet Murat Koksal, Sales Manager Turkish Airlines Venice and Antonio Saccotelli, Bit Mobility with Ad Michela Crivellente and Daniel Frank of Verona Booking. Also present was the engineer Francesca Vanzo, director of Agsm.

FOREIGN TRACTION – three weeks before the event we can already confirm a foreign participation record, rewarded the efforts and investments of the organizer in the international area. At the end of October there are over 1000 members coming from abroad, about 600 in marathon and almost 500 at the ZeroWind Cangrande Half Marathon. A greater number than in the past, thus making up about 6 thousand subscribers at the two competitive distances: and there are still more than two weeks left.

VERONA MARATHON – The project of bringing the Marathon closer to the City materializes in some initiatives involving citizens and attraction along the way. All spectators and curious will find in the most spectacular locations the installations of No Profit Organizations participating in the BRIDGESTON LAST 10K 2019 project and also those managed by the masks of the CARNIVAL OF VERONA, one of the oldest national events. Fundraising for solidarity projects, food products offered and lots of support for the many runners.

TELETHON – Veronamarathon promotes the traditional TELETHON MARATHON television event before Christmas. The collaboration project consists in offering all citizens and foreigners a jazz concert at the facilities of the Seghetti Institute in Via Montanari on the evening of Saturday November 16th.

CITY SIGHTSEEING RUN – SATURDAY November 16th – An excellent opportunity for all participants to do a warm-up before the race, listen an advice, meet many other runners and at the same time visit the historic center of Verona “relaxed”. Meeting at 10 am, departure at 10.30 am from the Veronamarathon Hub in Circonvallazione Maroncelli, 7. Open to those, Italians or foreigners, who may already be in town from Friday evening. Free for all registered participants on one of the competitions and with free race pace.

CORRIBRA – The provincial department for Sport at School, in collaboration with FIDAL and the Municipal Administration of Verona – Department of Sport-, are organizing the 20th edition of the usual race for secondary school students. In schedule on Saturday, November 16th, 2019 departure from Piazza Brà, meeting at 9.00 am, pre and post race logistics in the Gran Guardia lodge.

Over 1000 students, a course of 800 meters, registered Schools with one or more teams of at least 13 students.

GREEN MARATHON – Thanks to Bit MOBILITY Verona Marathon will also be focus on the environment. The Verona Chamber of Commerce recognizes BIT MOBILITY as an innovative start-up with high technological content. Founded by 3 young Veronese brothers, it deals with the rental of electric scooters. The willingness of BIT MOBILITY to contribute in these days derives from sport passion and from embracing the green philosophy of eco-sustainability. BIT MOBILITY will provide 50,000 biodegradable glasses that will be used in the refreshment areas. Together with Acque Veronesi which will allow the use of public water.

BIT MOBILITY will also provide 10 electric scooters for the Verona Marathon staff in order to move quickly. Again there will be a promo code of free run time for all participants and an info-point BIT MOBILITY will be set up at AGSM Forum, to provide users with information on use in compliance with the street rules and current legislation.

PROJECT ‘Ladies Running – Smile, Be Cool, Be Marathoner’ – It is the Verona Marathon project that wants to bring as many women as possible to run. Enthusiasm, determination and a good dose of madness. There are 16 courageous protagonists selected from more than 100 candidates. They will demonstrate how any woman can become a real runner and achieve a goal. First of all, a great motivation, the desire to get involved, to overcome one’s own limitations and to demonstrate that, despite work commitments and the management of a family, running for one’s own well-being, taking the time to be with oneself while training at the same time and getting ready for a marathon or a half marathon is possible.

Our intent is to create moments like these of continuous appointments over time, giving our employees, already active in the field of volunteering, the opportunity to offer their contribution even in different context.

 

This time the choice fell on ABEO among different partner Associations, akin to GSK’s social responsibility programs for its commitment to children, the same commitment that saw GSK volunteers bring Tocatì  (Festival of street playgrounds) to the Borgo Trento hospital in September.

RACE PACK – The race pack for all competitors at competitive events will be a wonderful and capacious training backpack produced by our sponsor Joma.

Big enough and very useful for any future training or competition, the backpack has an internal compartment, a shoe base, a front pocket and screen-printed logos.

THE MEDAL – the architect Alberto Burro, in collaboration with the producer Dal Mas, has thought of the rosette of the Basilica of San Zeno as a theme for the 2019 medal, a reminder of an important detail of one of the many magnificent monuments of the city.

FORTUNE – Work of Brioloto, sculptor and architect of the beginning of the XIII century, the rose window is decorated by six statues that represent the alternate human events: the man on the throne who then falls down crushed by misfortune and then goes back, to create a virtues circle who portrays himself as a wheel of fortune.

This metaphor of life can also be transferred to the race and Verona Marathon has thought of this object as a wish for departure, acceptance of difficulties along the route that culminates with the arrival on a trail of luck. The message is to not be discouraged, accept the difficulties and, finally, reward yourself and then start again. This message is perfectly integrated into the geometric shape of the rose window which, representing a continuous line without beginning and end, has the meaning of eternity.
